A recap of the 2010 event to whet your whistle:
The Brett Young Memorial Trials gets the green light for Friday
The swell is forecast to be in the 4-6ft range from the east direction and offshore winds all day. These conditions are perfect for Cronulla Point.
Positions are still available for the trials event, please contact Contest Director, Alex Leon on 0414 330 145 or sharkislandchallenge@gmail.com for further details. You must reserve your position in the trials by 5pm Thursday 2nd June 2011.
Check-in is at 6:30am at the marshaling tent at Cronulla Point near stair access.
First heat will start at 7:00am. Heat duration will be 15 or 20 minutes, depending on number of competitors. The Top 4 will qualify for the main event.
We will also be webcasting the trials, live, on ibaworldtour.com/live with highlights packages also made available after the event.
This swell is likely to decrease in size into Saturday. It is unlikely that the main round of the 2011 Bodyboardbet Shark Island Challenge will be running at this stage. The swell forecast is looking too east for its size prediction on Saturday. Models have been changing rapidly with the prediction of this low pressure system off the west coast of NZ so we will be monitoring it over the next few days.
All updates will be on ibaworldtour.com and facebook.com/ibaworldtour.
The official 2011 Bodyboardbet Shark Island Challenge launch night will be held on Sunday 5th June at 6:00pm at Rydges Hotel in Cronulla. The heat draw will be webcast on www.ibaworldtour.com/live at 7pm. This is where the heat draw will be taking place, with the majority of the 20 competitors in attendance along with the announcement of the live betting odds through www.bodyboardbet.com. Mitch Rawlins will be in present and this will be the venue for the NSW premiere of his film, Hiding From Comfort (available with Riptide #182, June 8th). We will also be showing the DVD of the historical 2001 Shark Island Challenge.
