Easter surfs

Postby meaksy » Sun Apr 08, 2012 6:51 pm

Happy easter everyone,
seems like most of the country has had a bit of swell to play around with and with most people having some time off i thought i'd start thread for you all to tell us about your easter surfs.
Tell us what you scored over the easter break, if youve got some photos, throw them up.

Hope you had a nice easter too meaksy. Figured torquay might be a circus so took a spin to pt leo Vic (westernport) on friday - swell was wrapping in ok. Only one stand up on the point when I got there - later on a few guys paddled out (including two other lids). See pics X 2 - fun session with some decent rights mixed up with some lumpy waves - as tide came in started working better. Managed to run over one guy - fairly steep take off and not a lot of room to move once you are committed (OK - I stuffed up - haha) - my board actually skated off the top of this guys scone as he duck dived - he was very good about it though & wasn't hurt.

Cheers Derwent,
Managed to get away west of adelaide for a few days prior to the easter rush. Waiting to get some pics from my bro so i can put them up. Got to surf a few new spots and see some massive surf. (too big for me to surf  ). It was a nice relaxing few days until i got sick on the last day of my holiday.

First day we surfed rocked up to see two jetskis towing surfers in. It wasnt that big that towing was necessary but they didnt really get in the way too much so it wasnt a problem. I caught a few rights before sitting on the inside to try and pick up the odd left that had a better shape. Got a few until i snapped my leash so swapped boards quickly and went back out for a few more rights.
Next day it had got a fair bit smaller but it had a better shape, wind wasnt all that co operative but manaaged to sneak into a few

Surfed another lefty reef another day that had a killer current going right on the shoreline but it ripped out to the left as you got out the back. Made for a very tiring surf and nearly took my bro around the cliffs, but a set came through and saved him a long climb /walk /

Got to surf a spot ive wanted to for ages where the swell wraps around both sides of an island and makes for some super peaky waves. Again the wind wasnt doing it any favours but it was good to give it a crack anyway.

Also surfed a right hand reef but didnt get any photos of that one. The swell was huge on some days. These photos are of one of my favourite spots but it was waay to big for me..or anyone. I dunno how big it was but these photos are taken from a dune thats about 50m above the wave. Wave faces would have been min 15ft. Could feel the dunes shaking when a few of them landed.

Had an epic easter. Drove up with a mate to the blues festival in Byron (24 hour drive :D )
And on the last day before we came home, got really fun waves at Tallow's.
Good times.

Same meaksy! I have the worst cold, got it on the last day before I went back to work. It's driving me nuts.

great pics meaksy - some of those waves look fun - and some look kind of heavy! I guess it depends on conditions etc - certainly those last few look pretty sizey and heavy to me. Was in adelaide thursday & saw in local paper report of 6m great white chomping on a sea kayak (and the guy inside as well - although he was ok and helped by his gutsy female friend) - thats a big animal!

nice one savage, apart from the cold, still trying to shake mine, i reckon it might be the first time i ve actually caught the flu  .

There were a few waves like that last one but it was one of those, "be a professional or die" situations haha sooo chunky :D

Hadnt heard that story until i just googled it Derwent, was this the one you read
http://www.news.com.au/national/woman-s ... 6325443107

That is very close to some of the waves above. In fact i went to that bay to catch my dinner one night. Glad i didnt go for a swim

My boss showed me that article yesterday, and said that the guy who got attacked by the great white works at the Adelaide store of the company I work for.
Weird.

well he has set the bar pretty high for shark stories - if i see a 6m plus great white out i'm going to keep my sunnies on too AND i am going to flip it the bird (assuming i still have arms and hands left to flip it the bird with or a head to put my sunnies on for that matter) :)
