Zoomos was working today - throws out some fast lefts on its day - sometimes it links up with a reform shorey but it was mostly shutting down in close today - anyone else get out? Yesterday looked good too but I was hungover - rare for me these days.

Zoomo's Derwent. Was pretty fun. Still quite a bit of swell was getting in there.
There were a couple of 4ft sets, a sneaky 5ft bomb even snuck through.

Saturday looks out of control! Definitely going to hit a few novelty spots

Looked damm good on surf cams & surf reports savage - zoomos would have been excellent on or around 4 to 5 foot - i find it a fast wave on its day - set a line and just hang on. Forecasts still bouncing around for sat - trying to work out whether sparrows or bird rock will be working or too big for them or whether pt leo is better bet - let me know where you get out - will try & post up a pic as usual.

Bird rock will be too big. Anything over 4ft it just shuts down. Sparrows will be too big also. However you could probably surf Calders (Outside sparrows) which will be very hectic and big. Only surfed out there once on a 3-4ft day and it was crazily fun. On a big day I'd be pretty hesitant as a lot of the time it's too quick to stay in the barrel.

cheers savage - seems like bigger swells shut down on those 2 spots - i've seen calders working from sparrows - a surfer told me i should go over there because i was on a lid - it looked good but did have a tendency to shut down on the end section - i don't think i'll try it out on a big day. Prob torquay pt would be an option but looking at forecast prob going to stick with pt leo on sat i think - the right off the pt there should be working if forecast hangs in there. Have fun on sat.

Pt leo had 20 plus on takeoff zone & was too shallow on lower tide close in where I like to go sometimes - so walked down the beach to try a new spot - reefs off Shoreham beach - asked a booger what the break was called - he said "One and a halfs" - fun rights off a bit of a suck rock. On the way back took a pic of pt leo on fuller tide. Looked good just about everywhere today.

Ended up surfing Pumping Stations this morning (sort of between Fisho's and the gap). Pretty much everywhere was solid and firing on the surf coast today. I had one of the worst hangovers so I opted to go for a fun paddle with mates rather than hit anywhere else. Was still kind of fun and less people than everywhere (most spots were out of control with people). Hell, it was just good to get in the ocean, such a nice day with that sun.

I checked the surf cams when i got home savage & a lot of the torquay breaks looked packed - but pretty damm good. i took a walk down the beach at pt leo for same reason - escape the crowds. No hangover though - hopefully ice cold seawater did the trick for you - like a slap in the face - haha - paracetamol helps too. from the car looked out over some flinders breaks - rolling in postcard perfect - will have to make the effort to explore those spots too. BTW a surfer ran over another surfer at 'one and a halfs' - no blood though so no fin chop but he didn't look too happy.

Hey Guys,

What thickness wetties do you blokes/ ladies? wear in winter?

been eyeing off a couple o suits at good prices.

Can you get away with a 3/2 + booties/socks?

or a 4/3 a must over here?

I wore a 4/3 in tassie where i think the water was round 11° in winter

Help would be good!

Tyson - I'd go a 4/3 if you can mate. I don't generally feel the cold too bad, but especially in August when the water temps drop to it's lowest (around 12 degrees) the 3/2 just doesn't cut it. My mate's got a 3/2 and only lasts half an hour while I'm fine for a solid couple of hours, or for however long for that fact. I don't wear a hood though. I guess the worst thing is the ice-cream headaches from a continuous set duck-dive when you first get in. Man that sucks.

Got an awesome keg today at Benzies (east of Jan Juc). Apart from that pretty average surf. That one wave was worth it though.
