Saturday 31st December
Inconsistent 1-2ft waves early, smaller later. Light N/NE winds, tending SE during the day.

Down south it is.

Anyone get out today - last wave for 2011. Got in for the early at gunna - scratched around but eventually got some decent lefts later in session - not bad fun :)

i'm going to take a punt on gunna tomorrow too - forecast looks pretty cr@p for rest of the week - gardening & household repairs here I come - hopefully won't be 38 degrees though - pulling weeds on a stinking hot day is not my idea of fun . If i see a lid out will say g'day

Just got back from a rather loose New Years Eve camping in Aire River with mates.
Surfed twice New Years Eve day, pretty fun sucky close-out barrel shorey coming in from deep water. Couple of air drop beat-downs.
Then that afternoon same spot but tide was higher and there were 3-4ft cross-shore fairly long right's coming through.
And New Years Morning same spot again but was real treacherous and rippy, so the waves were pretty shite.

All in all good end to the year.

I had to google aire river to see where it was savage - still learning my vic geography. I like the sound of the high tide rights over the air drop body slams in the sand. Still unexplored coastline for me down that way.

Gunna was ok today - I got there early in the mist so fuller tide and waves - maybe would have been better on a lower tide - still some decent enough sets and mostly lefts again - same bank as Sat. Saw a couple of lids out - g'day if you saw me out. Have a pic with daughters camera but it kind of sux so won't bother posting.

Word to that.
Unfortunately the tide is being a dick for the conditions down here. Wish it was low instead of high in the morning. Ah well. Surfing with 1,000,000,3829278 people it is 8)

swoodle/savage - did you get out today? Looked good on cams but couldn't get away - trying to work out if tomorrow may be on for surf coast given wsw swell forecast & storm system - will there be a stormie tommorrow ? forecasts are a bit all over the shop - some calling too small to bother - coastalwatch calling it bigger. Two bobs worth welcome.

Hey Derwent yeah I surfed Saturday morning with my old man and one of his mates (who also rides a lid). Surfed Fairhaven which usually sucks but it was really fun and hollow with some nice peaks coming through. Not bad size too, with some good 3ft sets rolling in.
Too bad about the crowds. About 50% of the crew out there were full-blown kooks and were getting in everyone's (people that could actually ride a wave) road/making things very dangerous. I copped a full mal to the head and got run over twice by the same guy. I'm fairly cruisy but was getting so over it at that point so ended up tuning him in, was getting beyond a joke. An old local also ripped the absolute shreds out of him aswell for getting in his way and sent him into the beach. Kinda funny. Can't wait for winter again.

Did you end up checking this morning? I got up at 6am before work and had a look. Was about half a foot here round Juc and Bells area. Pretty dismal.
On the plus side looks like the surf coast mornings should be fun from tomorrow onwards for the next few days.

Edit: Swell still tiny. Looks like that storm should start bringing some size as the day goes on tomorrow (Monday).

Hey Derwent,

I got waves on Saturday morning, not as clean as I wanted and a ton smaller than expected. Maybe only 1ft - 1.5ft. Still some small tubes coming through and the crowd was basically all mates so we had a good laugh. One of the guys that was out turned to me and goes 'Shit man, I can still smell the grog on your breath!!'. Yea I had a fair tilt on Friday night

Sunday morning the waves were SUPER clean but tiny. It really wasn't worth paddling out at all :(

Sounds like Savage scored better than me.

Swoods.

Swoodle where did you surf on Saturday morning? Surprised it was only that big on your side.
That swell did drop quick as the morning went on down here that's for sure.

Surfed EP. Normally EP picks up the most swell around the area. The Swell was still fairly messy.

I just wish it was around the same size on Sunday. Would have been dead straight and killer fun.

glad you guys scored - i made the call not to bother on sunday. Got a few waves at torquay pt on friday - basically a fullish wind swell - bit like titahi bay in NZ - better fun than I thought it would be. back at wk as of this week - so hoping this sunday comes through for an ok beachie at st andrews or gunna. Reef breaks at surf coast today probably would have been good - better than wk anyway :(

Heard it was real crowded this morning. Definitely would have been some good waves around though.
In regards to work - I hear that! I'm going full-time at the start of February. Less frequent wave activity but more money. Pro's/con's. Will be hunting waves everytime those 2 days off roll around that's for sure.
