Camera Equipment... canon

Postby lance » Thu Oct 06, 2011 6:15 pm

Ok so im tossing up betweeen the canon 70-200 f4 IS or the non IS 2.8.

Is the extra stop worth the sacrific of no IS? I know the extra stop will help shoot faster but the IS will also keep my images sharp. aaagggghhhh doing my head in.

Also is the canon 10-22 wide angle quick enough with a f3.5 or is there a better wide angle for crop sensors? im using a 7D.

Cheers :D

I've got the f/4 non IS, and I'm more than happy with it optically. Having IS on when your shooting at speeds of over 1/200 (as a general rule, me personally I find I can get away without it at 1/50th). So with that said I'd be going the 2.8 if you can, will let that little bit more light in allow for more creative use of DoF, and the IS isn't really essential (in my experience anyway).

had the f4 (the one cap is using at the moment actually) and loved it, bought the 2.8 non IS and whilst it is heavier and more expensive it is so perfect, image quality is stunning and the 2.8 is really useful, more so than the IS in the stuff that I do. You can replace IS with a tripod, but you can't add an extra stop no matter how hard you try.

As for wide angles, aperture makes little or no difference unless you're into astrophotography of stars and the like where you need a short shutter speed at night to freeze movement (hence wider aperture); most landscapes and general shots will be @ 5.6 or greater so not needed. Check the Tokina 12-24 as well it's the one im getting

Sorry to hijack the thread but any camera guys out there recommend a decent set up for taking shots of clothing, tees etc?

Was thinking a canon g12 might do the job but I am clueless with cameras.
