Doc: Hey Jacob, how's life in Hawaii these days?
Jacob: Life in Hawaii is Awesome. Late season surf, sun, great weather, good people, and everything is sick! I've been working a lot, bodyboarding, and training for this year. It's sick. Hawaii is the best place in the world.
Doc: You're riding prone mostly, do you bend the knee on occasions?
Jacob: Yeah I get up on the Knee once and a while when the waves are small.
Doc: What boards are you running in your current quiver and what are your current faves?
Jacob: I'm riding the Turbo IV 41 inch polypro board. Sickest board ever ridden for sure. Glenn Taylor from Turbo bodyboards has insane shaping skills. Stoked. It's my favorite for sure.
Doc: And how about accessories – leash, fins and wetsuits?
Jacob: I'm using the Turbo leashes. It's really good durable leashes and they are comfortable. Kicks fins is what I use currently, but thinking of getting the HUBB fins by churchills when they come out. They look insane and comfortable. No wetsuits for me. Don't have a sponsor for wetsuits and they cost a lot too get one. I'll probably have to get one when I start traveling, but you really don't need one for Hawaii. I was think of getting a Dunes wetsuit. Some company that support bodyboarding for sure. They look and feel sick.
Doc: D.O.B height and weight?
Jacob: October 1, 1985, 5'7, 150lbs on a good day. haha
Doc: Fave breaks – local and overseas?
Jacob: Favorite spots would have to be any spot on Maui. That is where i'm from and that is home for me. Right now i'm living on Oahu and I love the North Shore for sure, but Off The Wall is my favorite. As far as overseas, I've been to the philippines cloud 9 and that has been the best boogie zone garuntee so far.
Doc: What would be the biggest wave you’ve taken on?
Jacob: Biggest wave taken on? You mean getting worked on? Probably Puerto Escondido the main break Zicatela. It was 12ft Hawaiian. I thought I made it out to the lineup and all of a sudden there were these 12footers rolling in and I was like shit here we go. Fins came off, leash broke and got held under 2 waves I think. I thought i was done for.
Doc: And what’s the toughest wave you’ve hit up?
Jacob: Toughest? Probably one of the waves in Chile. Just because it was tough to get a wave cause all the locals were ripping, but they were all cool. I just had to wait my turn and they finally let me catch a few. I love Chile. I met some cool people and have some really great friends there.
Doc: Do you have a crew you hang with in the water?
Jacob: Jonah and Josh Romero my two brothers, Travis, Kona, Riley, Kingsley, Colin, Reis, Nate Rubio, David Philipps, Kainoa Lum, Timmy Hamilton, Micah Mcmullin, Evan Fa, Mbas, Herman, Derek, Brandon, Paul Benco, Happy Z, the HUBBs, there's more for sure. Sorry if I missed your name.
Doc: What’s the maddest roadtrip you’ve been on?
Jacob: Never been on one.
Doc: Best boat trip?
Jacob: Only been on one and that was in Indonesia. It was sick. We went to all different surf spots for like 7 days and just surfed, ate, and slept.
Doc: Who are some of your fave photogs?
Jacob: Danny Black, Maurice Aubuchon, Bryan Pezman, Ryan Beppu, Neal Miyake, Timmy Hamilton, Mark Balasbas, and Andrew Rams
Doc: Board history – any chance you can remember and name the boards you have had under you over time? Fave ride ever of all of them?
Jacob: Morey boogies from Costco, Custom X Quest and Vice boards, BZ toby player board and Brian Press board, T&C bodyboards, NMD winchester boards, Madrid JKOB boards, and the Turbo IV bodyboards. Fave of all time is the Turbo IV bodyboards guarantee.
Doc: Who would you like to give a shout-out to?
Jacob: My mom and dad for all of the suppot, God, My amazing girlfriend Cristina Grossu, Boogie Nation, and Heights productions.
Doc: And who are your sponsors?
Jacob: Turbo Bodyboards,
Maui Thing clothing.
