Reunion Pro (Sept 30 - Oct 9)

There's a lot going on out there on and off the waves. Got an inside scoop to share or competed at an event yourself? Come on, tell all!

Hubb claiming too much? Would someone explain to me the Aussie aversion to claiming a wave? Seriously I don't understand why people rag on about it.

Australian's are generally pretty modest people, not ones to brag or talk themselves up(just see after-game talks with the captain of a footy team) so i think it can be seen as a bit of a cocky thing to do.

Good explanation. Yeah I can see what you mean. I guess there can be an element of cockiness to it. Actually in baseball when a player hits a home run, if he gives a big celebration at home plate after running the bases, it is also considered rude. Often players that 'claim' at home plate get 'accidently' hit by a pitch next inning! But I do think it's great to see bodyboarders genuinely elated claiming after a wave.

I'm not really into fist pumping and hooting after catching a wave. I reckon I've done it once and that was because I made a barrel I shouldn't have when I had given up on it and my mate was watching. If I get a good wave, do a good move, I'll just smile and be a bit more chatty.

i duno when you do something amazing i like clench my fist and shake.. hard to explain on here.. but once i put my hand in the air for a long barrel.. haha i like to claim inside the barrel when friends watching, anyone ever looked back? was atcually the best feeling because it wigs you out so much, another one i did was looking at my wrist on my inside arm for the time, was pretty cool haha
everything happens for a reason.. we just dont realise it at the time

Think of it this way. Hubb is leading the World Tour. He's just made a sick move off a critical section in a prestigious IBA event after stressing he will not make the cut.
Why shouldn't he claim it. Plus as they've said, it indicates to the judges you've completed the move.

And by the way he is not cocky at all. He's one of the most down to earth, humble people I've ever met.

I'm not saying he is cocky. It's just not something I'm into and that is my opinion. In a comp, when I want the judges to notice I've landed a move, I just ride it out for a bit longer than normal then duck out.

And on the note of looking back, what I find is the sickest thing is when you pull into a closeout and the shockie hits you and flips you and your upside down looking back at your feet and boards flying everywhere. I always get good laughs out of it.

Also congratulations to Kingy for winning the DK comp. The DK was not part of the official tour and there were no points attached but the video looks sick, they were shredding.

And here are 2 amazing shots Sacha Specker took of Dave Hubbard in between winning heats and making it all the way to the final, mad props to Sacha!

Well done Kingy,
In general it would be nice though if they could give a bit more love to the Dk and not just run it on the "worst" day for all the comps

I reckon the waves they had for the DK were better than the other days hey. Looked more solid with sections and no 2652985 knot winds blowing everything out of whack.

on claiming: I don't fist pump but I will absolutely do a very loud YEEEEW if the barrel made demands it. If you're not a natural claimer that's cool, but if you are, why hold it back? You've just done one of the most enjoyable things on earth, don't be a tool and talk it down because you want to impress the random unemployed 30 year old local.

On dk: was actually a pretty cool video, and those are some sweet shots of hubbard to. Does anyone else think that the fact that Kingy, Winny and even Hardy go well in the DK comps is a bad reflection of the dk only pros, feasty and rose and Dubbard and lackey and shit? If part timers can win it something's not healthy with the scene. Well, aside from the fact that DK is rubbish anyway...

Feasty wasn't there (can't afford it)
Dave Hubb is a "part timer" too I suppose (he does all the prone comps and gets more prone shots run)
Lackey wasn't there (doesn't do that many comps)
