Shattered. Hubb deserved it, but guess that's how it goes.

Can't believe out of 3 world title contenders, I could have won $200 off Hubb or $450 off Hardy. $0 off PLC.

What a shame. Hubb did deserve it! Sorry you lost your money Savage! Bummer. Oh well. Gotta work tom.
Should be a good rest of the comp tho. Go Lester and Rawlins.

Ah well. I'm not too fussed about not winning anything, more or less surprised since I put those bets on in April.
Well done to PLC, nothing against him or anything, I just truly believe Hubb deserved to win it. I was really stoked for him to take his 3rd title.

Gutted for Jerry and Lester! About time Lester got a board model again. Makes a comeback after 2 years away, wins the Australian, Wins fronton trials, makes the semis.. He is killing it better than some of the other riders out there with their own models (IMO).

I have come to a conclusion since I was so gutted Hubb and Hardy lost the title. As much as the other two deserved it big props to PLC, he's one determined guy and good on him for taking it out.

Id much prefer PLC to get it over hubb, he has already had it twice let someone new hold the title !!

I would have loved hardy to win it this year but glad PLC took it out coz he was so stoked to get it so big props to him... especially after the beating he and his leash took at Zicatela haha

Big write up in the local paper here. Back page, big photo, the works...

http://www.illawarramercury.com.au/news/local/sport/other/wollongong-wildcard-stuns-his-pro-rivals/2393528.aspx wrote:Wollongong wildcard Jason Finlay has won the 2011 NMD-Pride-Stealth Fronton Pro bodyboard contest in the Canary Islands.

Finlay defeated fellow Australian finalist Mitch Rawlins of the Gold Coast in heavy and dangerous 2.5-4m barrelling surf yesterday.

Starting his campaign as a sponsored wildcard, Finlay finished 12th in the leaderboard phase and only really found his momentum in round four when he eliminated world title contender Jeff Hubbard of Hawaii.

In his quarter-final, the wildcard defeated countryman Dallas Singer of Box Beach, setting him up for a semi-final match-up against trials winner, Cronulla’s Andrew Lester, who Finlay topped in the dying seconds, scoring an 8.25 out of 10 for a big barrel.

After being carried to the podium by a cheering crowd of Aussies, Finlay was awarded the trophy by the mayor of the Galdar and dowsed in champagne by Rawlins and newly crowned world champion Pierre-Louis Costes of France.

‘‘I’m the happiest guy in the world,’’ an elated Finlay said.

‘‘The main goal was never the plan to win the comp. I just wanted to come do some big airs and mix it up with these guys and the locals who really tear this place apart.

‘‘The final did not have the best waves, but the whole comp I tried my hardest and it paid off.

‘‘I am stoked.’’

Costes clinched his maiden IBA GSS world title by defeating South African Jared Houston in the quarter-finals.

Houston was holding onto the lead with two small scores when Costes scooped into and negotiated his way out of the deepest barrel of the day, scoring him a 9.0 out of 10 to take the lead and eventually the heat win.

‘‘I can say that this wave was the wave of my life,’’ Costes said.

‘‘It was the wave that gave me the victory and made my dream come true.’’
