Does anyone know which camp is the best? I'm taking my girlfriend with me so the standards need to be a little bit better than what i would normal be ok with at a surf camp haha I'm leaning towards bobby's....

There are 3 main camps at G land (another is around there as well aparently)

In terms of mod cons, infrastructure and overall luxury Bobbys is the best. However you will pay accordingly and often share ot with a heap of seppos and Brazilians with the odd skip thrown in for good measure.

Joyos is the worst - crumby infrastructure and a favourite with the Brazilians as well - not the nicest way to have dinner with a bunch of blokes who spent all day dropping in on you; well that's if you get dinner as food has been known to run out there

G land camp is my favorite - middle of the range and often not as crowded as the other two as well as being located closest to the observation tower that is pretty much in front of launching pads which often has the best waves. The fat Kiwi bloke who runs it (Ron or Ray I forget his name) is a good bloke and most of the people who go there are chilled. However, given that you are taking a bird, I reckon Bobby's is the go.

Other pointers - watch the monkeys; thay will ramage through your room and take whatever they can get their hands on.

Only go if it is a south or ssw swell - too much west in the swell makes it section too much.

Your probably better off taking the speed boat. Pack sea sick tablets for the return trip esp if there is a swell running.

Enjoy. it's a great place to get away from the rat race of Bali for a few days 8)

Sweet cheers man def the info i was chasing, i thought joyos looked dodgy from their pics. Bobby's it is im keen to knock up some barrel time down at speedies. I was talking to a booger on a trip a while ago that had just finished 3 months there and could talk highly enough about the wave. I plan on heading there for a fortnight and then over to sumbawa for a fortnight hopefully score some super suck and/or lakey peak. Have you done much travelling around those parts?

I like the way you think champ 8) When are you heading over? Aiming for mid to late August throught to September myself.

Done west Sumbawa (supers and scar reef) 3 years ago. Whilst we never got supers decent, we had scar reef 4-6 offshore with six other blokes out. Still rates in my top 5 surfs - watch out for the end section; she'll loom up as a sick barrel but you'll never make it and it doesn't get its name for nothing. You gotta be very luck or stay in sumbawa for an extended period of time to score supers. Be warned though, Maluk the nearest town to supers is a right s.h.ithole and choke a block full of thieves. Notwithstanding that I intend to go back this year. whether it is by charter boat or land based accommodation I don't know yet.

Haven't done lakey's. By all accounts its more of an early season wave (like now ) given that it's cross shore/onshore in the trades.

Do it. You will not regret it.

Yeah i heard lakey's gets a bit windy later in the season so i guess i will be aiming for supers and scar, not that bad a trade off :D I should be in g-land around the 15th sep. I'm stinging for some good waves unfortunately the gold coast just doesn't cut it, even plam beach :(
I plan on flying to lombok and getting the ferry over coz i cant find any flights into sumbawa airport only bima which i beleive is a 7-10 hr drive away from the west coast!!! It is my second time to indo, the first i spent the whole time in kuta and blew it, something i will not be doing again!!!

g land is great for a booger, i stay at bobbies, foods ok, i take the mrs now, stay in air con room away from the masses, i time my trip for afternoon low tides, full moon/new moon, if your lucky then youll get speedies on a high tide in the AM, and the ledge on the PM low tide (ask ben player, 10 years ago perhaps) (on different days, swell direction).....
its not like a el fronton wedge, but lots of barrels, and the ledge is sick, and ppl scared at low tide....
