LEARN TO HOLD YOUR BREATH... lung capacity is a big deal...
what is it that scares you about bigger surf??
if its drowning then learning to swim and lung capacity will make you more confident..
and as i forgot who it was, was talking about before with the duck diving i find if you dont think you are going to get ir right the first time baioff the board and dive without it :D
wat can i say im awesome :D

I never ditch my board. No matter what.

Also being calm under water is 10000x more important than lung capacity. I doubt anyone on here would ever get a hold down longer than they can hold their breathe, you just need to be calm and not panic / fight it.

definitely, even without taking an extra breath in it's easy enough holding your breath for 20 + seconds, and unless if you're surfing jaws then you won't be held under for longer then that.

I agree, just let it take you and enjoy the ragdoll, Only exception is in waves that arent too big when you feel that a limb is going to be bent or contorted in a mannor that will result in an injury such as a break, hyperextension or tendon damage etc. Dont fight it as such but keep check of where everything is and apply some resistance if necesary, when the soles of your feet are resting on the top of your head its probably too late :( . In big waves of course you got no chance of out muscleing the weight of water so just go with it.

you will still come up if u ditch ur board??
and yeah dont panic, but the only reason people panic is cos they think they will run out of breath and drown so if u build up capacity you are more comfortable too just get pulled along
wat can i say im awesome :D

not guaranteed :D . you will get a much much longer hold down without holding onto your board.

Learn how to bail with your board, and when you cant do that, learn how to use your arms/legs and fins to steer under water whilst being drilled. you can fight to force of the wave, but you CAN make sure you stay upright most of the time. good for surfing shallow reefs/banks where you can land on your feet rather than your face...
