Artificial Reef technology

Postby doclach » Fri Apr 30, 2010 10:47 am

the technology and science of artificial reefs is defo stepping forward. they're developing win-win situations for the coastal environment and its users. checkout the first animation of how this company, ASR, is doing it - and the result in the second vid
"Working in conjunction with the Indian government, ASR Ltd completed construction of India's first Multi-Purpose Reef in February, 2010. The primary purpose of the reef is to mitigate coastal erosion from monsoon waves in the small town of Kovalam. The reef also creates an excellent habitat for marine species. Finally, as this video shows, the reef has helped create a great surf spot."

some more over here would be great (I know, don't get greedy, etc). Good for the environment, good for waves, and if you put them at the right places it also increases the amount of spots that people can swim around in without getting smashed by closeouts. The dream would be for ten or so nice artificial reefs scattered along the straight hander section of Boodj, I reckon. Make a few of them mellow point style waves, make a few of them really shallow. Gotta put those mining royalties to good use..

you'd think it could only get hollower, but i have very little knowledge with the workings of sand movement and reefs etc. apart from the fact that reefs are funs as to surf
