Skate Photography

Postby captain_awesome » Fri Jan 21, 2011 12:31 pm

A thread for everyone to post their skate photos, ones that you've taken or even ones of you (with credit to the photographer).

I can hardly skate (I can cruise around, but actual skating skating i'm hopeless at) but skate photography is something that really interests me and something that I want to do more of. I like how theres more communication between the actual skater and the photographer (working out what to go for and where to go for it, getting to stand in that spot to get the focus, ect.)

I'm a little limited in the people I know that can really skate, but that doesn't bother so much given the stage I'm at with the technique of shooting skate (I've only done it 3 times) and my widest lens being a 50mm f/1.8 and also no flash (hopefully I'll have a flash soon though).

So post yours up and give advice to others f you can :)

This session is from yesterday up at the closed off race hill, they use it for the local club downhill skate comps and the car rally.

Probably have alot more, but may have to locate them off another computer.

Yewww up to part 8 of 14 of Lords of Dogtown, absolutely lovin it.

Did a shoot with a mate today, he slides.
Had to hold a 77mm ND filter up to my fisheye(wrong size :( ) to get the blur, kept it around 1/25-40th second.

Last two I'm digging. Really cool colours. Just a bit boring in the context of the photo though, no offence intended.

none taken at all, completely see what you mean, was just to fill time between our surf and lunch, so my street was all we had to work with. Me and jack (the guy skating) will be shooting at a bigger and more interesting hill

we, I'll be shooting some fairly pulled back angles, pretty sure I'll be able to get him to go grandview, there'll be a heap of good angles there

Definitely, it's not like you have Andrew Reynolds and a 20 stair handrail to work with too, haha.
Stick at it though man, good fun when there's no waves.

Also 85, that vid was sick, haven't heard of that dude before. Loving the double airwalk down the big 3 8)
