well its 50 progressive frames per second and by the sounds of it if you're shooting at 60 frames it might be 60 interlaced frames(equivelent of 30 frames progressive) and it may be in NTSC format which usually operates at 30 fps.

The difference between NTSC and PAL is often confusing eg you can get the same camera as mine but in NTSC format and it shoots 60 fps, but when played back its the same speed as my 50 fps PAL footage.

But I'd be very interested to see the footage, especially of skating!

Yeh I talked to West and he also said that it could be because you guys have Panasonic and I have Sony, and so it may have different standards. But that progressive and interlaced formats sound right, except I know my cam is PAL. Ive got the skating footage on my site- www.millerbestmedia.com.

i seem to get asked alot of questions about frame rates. like miller, alot of crew have these new sony cameras that allow them to film at 240 frames per second.

the thing is, its usually only for anywhere between 3-8 seconds and the quality at times can be very poor. apparently in the cameras manual it talks about how this is a function for annalysing golf swings etc.

Todd Barnes owns a camera that shoots in a higher frame with no quality loss yet is for something like only 6 seconds real time. (great for closeouts)

with the cameras dan i have, we can shoot in higher or lower frame rates without any quality loss and can film in the mode untill we run out of space on the P2 cards.

So it seems as though no matter what your budget for a camera is, you may be able to pick something up that allows you to play around with different frame rates.

Frame rates arent everything though, purchase a camera for its quality not the tricks it can do.

Should have seen my first camera!!! it was smaller then the 2x lens i put on my new camera haha.
If your filming from land alot invest in a half decent tripod at some point...
try not to film into the sun or from to far away. keep it simple while your starting out. get the basics down before u start trying to get to 'arty'. move around to find a spot you think looks good. most waves look best when your looking into the barrel. try not to set up really high on a cliff or something, it can make waves look small.

Filming from water can be done either on a board or swimming, its up to you. obviously if the wave is a fair way out (for example the box) you might want to sit of a board. try get as close as you can (sit on the shoulder of the wave) so you dont have to zoom in as much. the more zoomed in you are the easier it is to have bad shaky footage. if your housing has room for a wide angle and you get one, you would of course want to be swimming around in the barrel.

if you wanted to get better at bodyboarding you would practice alot and look at photos/footage of how you were surfing. The same goes with filming it, keep on doing it and look at your footage and see what you did well and what could have been done better.

^fark i was just about to post that. RED are doing some totally insane things.

268mp 6x17 CM! sensor coming at 55,000$ incredibly cheap considering how ridiculous it's image quality will be and compared to current equipment prices

i imagine that the 2,500$ Scarlet 3K camera would be of far more interest to the average filmmaker.

Hey fellus

i got a Canon Xh A1and i shoot water with it whilst she is safely sitting inside her pthp housing.

Just having a few zoom issues when i shoot water. when i go to zoom in on the subject he/she becomes blurry and the sky/background will be in focus. Ive been shooting man focus at infinite and cant seem to get the results i want. i dont shoot fisheye so i am pretty much a channell filmer.

Could any of these be the problem

I use Tv mode (shutter priority) and set it to 1000/2000 or 4000 which usually leaves my aperature pretty low. (could running a shutter of about 1/800 give me the depth to zoom in a bit??)

I turn my nd filters off

I set focus to infinte.

If i could get a heads up on this itd be really appreciated.
