Just re-reading the latest RT and noticed that no one has yet commented on the readers poll.
Sure Lack,Dubb,Mase and Roach I can understand, but please... Winny? WTF

I will admit I dont like to vote in these types of things as they never release the real votes anyway, so well done RT for again stirring the pot. I mean surely the educated reader that bothered to put their vote in would have shown some respect and not voted Winny above Roach?? Did they?? And why was he even put on the roster?? Shame RT, shame. I would hate to think what our O/S readers think.

I bet Mase/Roach are feeling a little pissed right now! along with all the other bagtearers around the globe.

just cause he gets exposure does that mean he is good. no. (personally i think his DK is average.) it means people see more of him DKing than others who rip on the knee.
it wasnt the versatile poll, it was the DK poll and he doesnt deserve a spot

Dude think before you type. The real dk riders need to be exposed and when shit like this is being printed it makes them look like a joke.

Just trying to get a simple message to the folk at RT to please cut the shit and back what people like DKS are really trying to do, promote the knee in the best way possible. These poll's are rediculous and shouldnt be printed in this fashion. The measly half page they "dedicated" to promoting the results could have been better served exposing some underground or even putting that shot of Dane Pope in from the QLD News section, that would have been 10 times better.

The problem isnt the voters, it the coverage. if someone isnt in the spotlight much (when was the last time roach was in riptide?) then the groms wont vote for them.

i agree the media play a huge part in the demise of talent.. a dk section every issue wouldnt be so bad.. would it? surely the prone cats could deal with a few pages an issue devoted to the knee

I was giving reasons why people might vote winny. Not reasons i personally believe.

Lets face it anything about voting is a popularity contest. You cant really argue with that. As i said everyone loves winny and why wouldnt you.

Im not saying he is the best DK rider, but he is no slouch either, your avg voter see's a guy like winny have two of three of his best DK rides gathered over a year of filming in one video and obviously people will think highly of him.

No the problem is RT, they are not giving the voter/ill informed/grommet, whatever the correct list of names of proper DK riders. When they leave the book open to include riders like winny/kingy/hughsey or anyone else who gets on the knee in very limited times, it puts the progressions of dk in reverse. Do some research back in the day of "Bodyboarder Mag" when you had riders like Keith and Jay always in the top 10, hec even danny kim was in there, and compare it to now. You just dont see a dk rider in the prone poll, so why the *#ck would you mess with the dk poll and include the prone guys? Why would you create a dk poll in the first place if it wasnt going to include only dk riders? Even winny, as nice as the guy is, doesnt consider himself a "DK Rider".

Pretty simple, check the forum posts of "Names for dk poll" i think its called, surely they could have gone with that?

thing is, how are us readers going to vote for the underground dk riders that have been shredding for years in a readers poll if we have never seen a shot of them. i couldnt tell you who micah mcullan is from a bar of soap, and how should i? iv seen 2 shots of him in 10 years. making a big list of all the dk riders in the world and making people vote for them wont do SFA, no one knows who they are and the poll would just be the same 3 people with wingy and kingy on the end.

so how about instead of whinging about it we all come up with a solution????

ill try, make a dk section OR make it a criteria that in every 5 riptides there is a dk profile, or at least 7 pictures, a dk how too, or bang up mat lackeys life lessons. Then in 5 years time peopel will be exposed to enough quality dropknee riding that they are enabled to make a half informed decision on who they think is the best rider.
You cant change 10 years of neglect by the industry in a week, its gonna take another 5-10 years for dk to become the same popularity it once was.....

The media in general including all BB mags need to actually start working for their dollar, get out there to the comps and do some ground work into who these people really are. Get the hell out of behind the desk and start getting involved, thats why they invented laptops adn wireless internet. DK riders can drop as many pics or stories in front of these people as they want but it is up to them who they choose to put in the mags/newspapers/vids etc in the end, and as far as im concerned its always going to be the sponsored "Lackey" or someone who advertises with their mag. (look after your mate,keep your job in a good state)

Get on myspace or facebook man and look it up. Look at the Bodyboarders Hawaii stuff, if your dedicated mate get involved and be proactive.Study. Do you know who Kainoa is,Aka,Jack,Keith....seen them in a mag lately?
