Hey i went to Vanuatu just stayed on the main island (efate) the whole time. Definitely tried to go for a few boogs. I went in July though... so winds and swell direction prob completely different. Pretty much we didnt get any waves, just some small ones at a place called devils point which is pretty sketchy to get to... there was like full on village people living in huts and kids holding water bottles on their head (world vision styles). Anyway the main surf area is around pango point and breakas which we also went to but there was nothing at this time of year because the winds were easterly all day everyday. Anyway i would see if the winds favour this area when you go... Also, on a day trip without the boogs we went to some hot springs at Onesua and there was some waves out on the lagoon reef which handled the sin winds, so that could be alright.

I hoped to be able to get scooters and drive around the island like at cook islands, however car or scooter is a lot more expensive and they wouldnt let us hire anyway cos we were under 25. Alot of the roads on maps are actually private and you cant enter which meant we couldnt access the whole west coast (the only offshore place) And the efate is so much bigger than Raro haha, so getting around took so much longer. Maybe some of the other islands have waves?? But i wouldnt be getting my hopes up for Efate. Do yourself a favour and make sure you eat at Olympic Burger in the main street. Also get some kava from a local village not somewhere else. Get your driver to take you in and get it.

I attached some pics of devils hope it works

have fun

Yeah, your mate's right. It's not alcohol, it's a sedative type drug which is pretty relaxing. You don't drink it with alcohol either (at least I've never seen it).

I actually don't mind the taste but a lot of people say it's basically the equivalent of drinking muddy water - doesn't have a kick, just leaves your lips a bit tingly.

Yes this is correct, what pete said is on the money,
I had it when i was in fiji, i would liken to drinking a sink full of water that you just washed vegetables that you just pulled from the ground in. Its muddy and vegetably, its not that bad a flavour but its not something that you would say taste great. One bowl will make your lips tingle, basically the more you drink the more relaxed you get so it starts with you lips and if you have enough you body will eventually not bother to move your limbs unless you really want them too, i guess if you have too much then your bowels could stop working, man that is a funny story. but i suspect it was something in the water that gave him the runs and not the actual kava.
I was talking to a local taxi driver (as taxi drivers anywhere will talk your ear off). He was saying how half the population in fiji now are indians becasue they are the only ones who will actually work hard. he said that the fijians (not all) are always drinking kava and basically cant be stuffed doing anything :D .
