Big News
Well I have saved this information so you, my readers are the first to hear it. As of today I have finished my contract with Four Play and have signed a three year deal with Turbo Bodyboards! In addition my wife is pregnant and we are due to have a baby in June! What a spin out! Changing times...
Well, firstly I am going to have a child... WOW! To tell you the truth when I first got the news I was stunned! I felt like a kangaroo in the middle of the road at night when your car lights hit it... Frozen. A million questions running through my head, "Am I ready? Do we have enough money? How will this effect competing? I can't handle crying babies?"... The list goes on. But after I have had the chance to adjust, accept and front what is about to happen (about 3-4 months from now), I have been looking forward to, and welcome, the challenges of what a child brings. It's something I have always wanted, but have always found an excuse to put it off. There is no choice now, it's on! My wife Leota is tickled pink! I think she has wanted a baby more than anyone on this earth and now she has got it... her life and mine will taken to another level. I really wanted to focus on the tour next year and don't want this to effect my performance. Watching Dave Winchester compete this year, with one child and another on the way, was inspiring. He actually said to me that his daughter inspires him to do well, let's wait and see.
Secondly, as of today, I just signed a three year deal with Turbo Bodyboards. Turbo is a global company, but is conveniently based in my hometown, Port Macquarie. I have watched the company grow and develop into a global brand and what has impressed me the most about Turbo, and one of the key reasons why I am excited by the change, is Turbo is an ethical brand with good morals. Even at a local level I have watched Turbo get behind our local club and show support to the younger generation and amateur competitors. I am a passionate person and this now translates into the board company I ride for. These ethics are important to me, and something I feel was lacking with my previous sponsor. Also, Glenn Taylor, part owner and one of the best shapers in the World is amped to work closely with me to get my boards back up to a level I need. Having the head shaper only a stones throw from my house is going to be a huge, huge advantage!
On the broader scale, my stock boards are going to be coming out of the best hig-end factory in the World. This means my signature model will be at a quality level I have never had in the past... Finally!! I am stoked with this change for a variety of reasons and when Turbo showed interest I was to keen to move forward.
So there are exciting, challenging and unpredictable times ahead. Life's roller coaster will continue into 2010!!!
