Soilders beach :?

Woooo... thanks IBA

The world tour is a joke. I hope some euro who cant surf for shit wins. At least that way Aus companies will take less notice to it.

I hope IBA folds. For the good of this sport. Its in the wrong place at the moment.

I'm taking Conjob's side on this. The IBA at the moment is run by a few ad-hoc 'yes men' who can't stomach the fact that bodyboarding is a product that needs to be marketed, but can at least erect a high scaffolding in Peru and award people high scores for manoeuvres that not even the most tourrettes-riddled paraplegic would be proud to perform.

Competitive bodyboarding should be run by business people with business sense and experience with dealing with products. Why did Steve Jobs hire the CEO of Pepsi - who had no knowledge or interest in computers - to be CEO of Apple? Because he was good at marketing the product. Screw your scaffolding and your bikini shows at contests, and spend your (little) money on something intangible, but worthwhile: experience and knowledge. Get a team of people in expensive suits to make bodyboarding their personal project. Make it a franchise, so people can have an opportunity to invest in the sport without having to own a clothing brand.

We need educated people, making educated decisions. Not just Surfer Joe who wants the event run at Soldiers because it's down the road and he won't have to carry the judge's tent too far. I really think bodyboarding is riddled with too many high-school drop-outs and people with second-rate degrees to succeed in such a tricky corporate world.

As for the SIC, it is a bit of a shame letting it go, I must admit it's probably for the better. Hopefully there's another 'rebel' event next year. Otherwise, it's tradition versus progress.

This is all assuming you're not a puritan who thinks money will corrupt everything and wants to live with an Amazonian tribe away from the rats race, and actually want our sport to be recognised on a larger scale. Let the debate begin.

Is that in place of the rumoured "Box" I wonder?
If so the disappointment will be palpable....
but don't worry, it'll all get blamed on the man that took back the island comp.. he's an easy scapegoat!

soldiers bech on the world tour?

imo dbah would be a better wave for the tour, or even knights in SA, there are heaps of better waves on the oz tour than soldiers

Or gas/box/supers/smiths/rabbits/boodj etc etc etc.

The IBA is full of idiots without a clue. The sooner that sh*thouse excuse for a association, the better.

the tour doesn't need to fold, it simply needs to have all events at heavy, challenging reef breaks and not tiny beachies. until then it will be pretty s**t

It doesn't need to fold, for sure, but it needs pretty radical internal change. I do like the grand-slam idea though, we just need a worthwhile Aussie wave in it. In my opinion the Peru event didn't meet standards.

Good luck, the Margaret River / Augusta shire is full of old decrepit standup surfers and control most of the area's those waves reside.

I don't think it always has to be heavy slabbing waves just a wave rip-able on a body board. An Aussie Pipe comp would be unbelievable.

yeah true what i shouldve said was higher calibre waves, not necessarily all heavy reefs
in fact i think it would be best if all the events were held in a big range of conditions from big heavy reef breaks to a decent beachie with fun reefs or big beachies (like peru) in between
that way you would see who was the most all round rider and who would deserve the title the most

That place is crowded enough as it is though.
