So sick to see you guys having a crack at the questions and getting your damn fine noggins on the forum!
As has always been the case in boog, an absolute 'Liquorice Allsorts' (very diverse) selection of people ride the sponge - wouldn't have it any other way. Totally off the wall.
Speaking of which, Meaksy mentioned
Dont forget to intro yourselves Doc Robson and Miichael!!
so here is the mods ball rolling:-Name/age
Dr. Lachlan Hinds/43
-Where Are You From / Local Wave?
East Coast of NSW - A little suburb called Clovelly. Tamarama (Tama) is my current local for the last few years, Maroubra (Bra) for a decade before that.
-How long have you been riding for?
-What inspired you to get a sponge under your belly?
Went out on this floppy green board with screw-in plastic fins when I was 12 or 13 and got barrelled on one of my first waves. Hooked
-What board(s) do you have?
Current quiver is Turbo Custom PP cres, 4Play HPS (tri-core) Kingy concave, No.6 Max EFC cres and No.6 Covenant bat.
-Do you reckon you'll still be tearing up on the sponge in 20 years time?
Definitely. Some of my funnest days are boogin' with HG Nelson. I won't say his age, but we have a mile of laughs and good times. That's my inspiration to be boogin' then.
-What are your favourite sorts of waves (barrels/wedges/reefs/beachies etc) ?
Reef barrels. The deeper the better.
-Would You Rather Bodyboard 25Foot Waimea Bay Shorey or Bodyboard 10foot Dry Pitching Cyclops?
Clops, might be the last thing I would do, but pretty awesome to go out with a 'bang'!! All my friends have always said I'm not the sort of person that will go by being run over by a bus - it will be the equivalent of a great ball of fire, haha. great ball of foam will do me.
-You Are Bodyboarding 10foot Nuggan And A Section Loom's Up Infront Of You - Would You Rather Pull Into That Section And Get The Barrel of A Lifetime or Launch Of That Section And Pull A Massive Tweaked Invert.
-Assuming you had the skillz of Ryan Hardy (prone) or Roach (DK) - what move would you make in the end section after a pumping barrel at Hawaii Pipe?
Prone -I'd love to hit the end section so fast ad with perfect set-up line that you'd get air like some of those pics of Hubb Danny Black posted last year. DK - massive air floater from that lip
-You now have the wallet of Richard Branson (super rich dude). You can pick a country anywhere in the world (but only one) to find fresh breaks in and sponge your brains out - where would you choose to go?
Nicaragua, lots to be discovered there.
-You're given the editorial reins of Riptide Mag, what feature would you include in every issue?
Defo an underground rider featured every issue, and rotated around the States so they aren't from a media rich area necessarily. So much unseen talent out there AND it would be one prone underground
and one DK underground
(which is most DK'ers due to media reasons these days). Some reader stories would be sweet. Brings back the 'real'.
-You can go with 4 legend riders to any break in the world. Which riders and which break would you choose?
My mates I ride with are my legends (including the PI crew). But in the spirit of the question, Bullet, Kainoa McGee, Uncle Mike, Beau Day. A bloke I surf with has a sick charter boat in asia fully decked to the max, including banks of lights for night surfing, so would cruise with the swell and winds to hammering reefs and just jump over the edge and get barrels and be generally awestruck.
-You Are Organizing A Trip To A Remote New Break, You Have Access To Any Photographer Of Your Choice To Come And Document This Occasion, Who Would You Pick?
Tors and Dee http://www.followtheswell.com/home.html
, cos they're awesome to hang with and take very 'real' shots (with Trevi http://www.surfphotos.com.au/
in the backpack for laughs and Rich Robson http://www.robsonsvids.blogspot.com
in there too for some video and to have a totally mad bunch). Totally mad bunch = 1 so I've answered the question, haha.
(and yes Despes
Phil Gallagher (thats the guy that does le boogie right?)
= correcto. and totally legend dude to go on a trip with - you'd never stop laughing either.
The pic, I've chosen one that isn't so welcoming I suppose, but it's one the Missus took with me just being a noob mucking in Movember. Took a while to get the shot cos we couldn't stop laughing. Main thing is the shirt was given to me by one of the blokes I boog with locally (when he is in the country, Mez Unit on the forum) and it kinda represents what boog is all about, travelling and hitting pumping gear with our mates, and the attitude we have to people that don't like our sport, or choose to put it down for their own narrow reasons.
Long live da boog!
