didn't do anything, just hoped for the best, not my lens so I don't want to f@k the ring up, going to try taping it at 3ft next time.

Ok - I should have also asked what settings you were shooting with (aperture, shutter speed, etc)? You still on Nikon or have you switched to Canon?

Mate check out http://www.dofmaster.com/dofjs.html which will give you an indication as to how much you'll get in focus at different apertures. I usually aim for F5.6 - F8 depending on conditions but thats on a 10mm which when set at around 3ft will put everything from 1ft to infinity into focus!

Never shot with 26mm but Ive shot with a 50mm and i've had to use AF as you can't really pre focus unless your going for a real pulled back shot

you can kinda use MF.. but you have to accept the limitations....

What I did is set a board up in my yard at about the "right" distance that I wanted to shoot... imagining a wave over it etc... I then took an AF shot of it and made a note of the setting...

Next time down the beach I recreated the focus setting and shot nothing but that distance.. as I say.. it is limiting but can be done... 50mm is def better on AF.... 28mm is kinda in between.....

Yeah its very limiting on MF for sure when shooting with anything other than a wide or fish

on canon now, so I'm considering the canon fisheye,

I was using like f/2.8 and 1/4000+ stupid settings I know but eh, gotta practice it somehow.

any recommendations on lenses that are still being produced or can get a hold of, I'd get the tammy 10-17 or 11-16 which ever the fisheye one was, but I haven't found one at all.

Go the Tokina 10-17 FE - this is the cheapest ive seen it - http://www.dwidigitalcameras.com.au/store/product.asp?idProduct=2275

I bought mine second hand for $500 but haven't got a dome port so dont use it in the water

The 11-16 is meant to be a very good lens aswell but if $$$ is an issue the the FE is deff a bargain 8)

I don't need the low f stop, because when I'm going to be shooting shows in the future I'll have other lenses to work with yada yada.

but that is really cheap, do they still produce them?, as most tokina gear is impossible to purchase.
