IBA Judging

Postby WaveRider » Tue Apr 19, 2011 4:08 pm

First of all, i'd like to say that the IBA has come aloooooooooong way and they are improving competitive bodyboarding in so many ways.

Better locations, different format, extended waiting periods, decent webcast and live scores. All positive!

But I feel their biggest downfall is the consistency of the judges.

Some things i'd really like to see rewarded would be:-

- Combination riding

- Fluidity of rider on wave

- Progressive bodyboarding / new moves

- Scoring the move in regards to the circumstance - i.e. A forward does not usuall score very well at all. But we have to encourage things like forwards in to the barrell (what other craft can do this), forwards of the lip of a bowling section etc. The same goes for other moves which in certain situations are more high performance.

Most importantly we need the judges to be consistent to with how they reward waves and moves from heat to heat, from day to day.

We need to encourage the evolution of the sport in so many ways. We need to reward things that can only be done on a bodyboard.

We need to look at the bigger picture :)

I agree with this. So with that in mind, I'd like to see maximum points awarded to shitty flop rollos, hand-drags, and bus riding off crappy insiders. How much more enjoyable would "the people's" bodyboarding become as a result? Yes, I know it's a rhetorical question.

perhaps if they calculated the max size of wave.. say 8ft..
anything 4ft and below has to be a score of under 5, or something like that..
cause its a alot harder to do tricks in 8ft then 4ft OBV,
pretty rough idea but yeh..
everything happens for a reason.. we just dont realise it at the time

But what if the waves are under 4ft :? . Big air with a massive trick>Deep barrel to a spin>barrel to a roll I think

then you'd get graded more for airs in 4ft then 2ft etc..
if iba is holding waves under 4ft we have a problem anyway

If its 3ft and good conditions I don't see the problem. Even if its 2ft and perfect like cloud nine style little tubes and ramps and there is no other option I don't think its that big of a deal. Sure its good for body boarding to be held in big heavy slabs but mother nature is a bitch allot of the time and its unrealistic to expect pumping waves at every event.
