A new video look of Riptide #182, that comes accompanied with Mitch Rawlins' new film Hiding From Comfort. It's in your local newsagency now!

Thanks to the following gents:
Jem Cresswell - Caribbean footage.
Andrew Kaineder - Mandurah Wedge footage.
Will Hodgett - South Oz footage (his new film, Mega Movie, will have the A-Grade clips!).
Mike Egan - Helicopter footage.

Enjoy!

Just got home and chucked in the DVD - I did enjoy HFC but it was quite short and the tow in's were a little repetative. Overall though alot of epic footage!

I was also taken back by the Mike comments and veiwed that as a complete lack of respect considering Mike helped him ALOT, also the fact that he feel's his influenced more by stand-ups than he has been from any bodyboarders? I do wonder if he's trying to stay in Billabong's good books? Not trying to start anything, this is simply what i got from it (along with all the epic footage of course! haha) :|

Time to read the mag 8)

Yeah i thought it was really short. And thought the interviews were really badly edited because it didnt explain what he meant... re Mike Stewart and the stand ups. But there is some awesome footage in there.

I took the mike stewart comment to be in relation to big wave riding before mitch was into it., mike was giving him tips but mitch was too scared or not thinking he was going to get into big wave riding so just dismissed the comments, i thought the editing of the interviews was really bad too, whats with the bit when he gets asked a question mumbles an i dont know answer and then it just cuts off.

perhaps the comment about surfers influence was also in regards to big wave surfing i dunno, i would like to hear a better interview with him.

Too short, repetitive clips... But otherwise, awesome footage!
Probably a 6/10

Picked up a copy last night, and had a bit of a read on the bus on the way to work today. I didn't finish it, so there is a good start! Good shots in this one, and i love pt 2 "money can't buy life". i want to jump on a plane to south america now!

Well done guys, best mag in quite a while....trumped the obur-late Movement thats for shiz....

re: The Rawlins "Mikegate".......it's a comment not placed in it's proper context by the editing...he's mimicking the 15 year old mitches response "that stupid...your stupid" because he wasn't at that stage in his headspace and direction with his surfing...it's the same response you see from kids when dad tries to give the tips at halftime in a saturday morning sport......"piss off dad, I just wanna play how I want to" it's not until years later when you are at that stage in your development that the tips start to make sense.

and re: the surfing influence comment.....that's fairly valid if you dissect his riding....he's all hard on the rail (rail hand placed right back and weight on the back peg.....he'd probably love 70/30 rails  ) and edge of the barrel rotations.....where as someone like kingy is more the next extension of the classic stewart platform (outside of mike I'd rate kingy as having the best "base" skills) Bp is a bit of a synthesis of eppo radicalness fused with the classic style...etc etc... you get the point non?

If u don't like hearing critical opinions then stop reading now.

Like many others here I was super psyched to get down to the newsagent and pick up a copy of the new riptide. The main reason being to see Mitch's new vid. This is a pretty big deal as it would b 18 months since I last bought a boogin mag. After sitting down and getting about 2 sections in I start to wonder if I have put in the wrong vid. Personally I believe the narrative editing in this vid is poor.....and by that I really mean shite. For example the end of the first section seems to drag on after the song is done and it doesn't make sense. What is the point of the interview cuts when the following footage appears to have no relation to the previous statements, apart from the section talking about big waves. Bad luck if u like surfing lefts your going to be gard pressed finding motivation in this video. I really like some of the lifestyle footage but it seems randomly jammed into the segments without really adding much to it. That shot of Mitch fully suited up in the cold is a great shot. Surely footage of him surfing some big cold poking waves will follow (psyched).....wrong again, mr Tom working his magic.

Maybe I expected too much but from watching the trailers I genuinely expected this to be an amazing piece of film. Instead I'm left scratching my head wondering what could have been. If you are willing to look past the hype and actually form your own opinion on the film I feel you may have similar thoughts
