forget 50d get a 60d if price is an issue,get a second hand 1d mk11 mk3 if you only wnt to shoot stills otherwise 7d for cheaper lenses or go the whole hog and get a 5d but as i said earlier once you have handled a 1d the rest feel like toys

if your shooting with a 40d dont bother upgrading to a a XXD body, theyre practically the same, except for 60d which film if your into that.

umm i dont know too much about the 1D range so i cant comment
but i heard heaps of people love the 7D and i think it would be a suitable upgrade, and its not full frame so you dont have to worry about lenses etc..
