churchill slashers?

Postby perina14 » Wed Oct 12, 2011 4:37 pm

hello. i was searching through a pawn shop and noticed a pair of churchill slashers in my size and tried them on. very comfortable. i have tried many types of fins but always seem to go back to regular churchills. anyway, the question i'd like to pose is, has anyone used/does anyone use these fins? how is the thrust/drive? any input would be appreciated. thanks.

I had a pair and still use them from time to time. Heaps comfy and while the thrust is ok, it's not outstanding.

It's been way too long since I used regular churchills though, so can't help too much by way of comparison sorry.

thanks for the input. the reason i mention going back to regular churchills is that i've tried a few different types of fins; stealth 1 and 2, pod 2 and 3 in the last few years and they just don't seem as 'right', for me anyway, as churchills. the comfort over drive point is an important one, because the pod fins are comfortable and well made, but in my experience lack the little bit extra 'push' that can make the difference in catching and not catching waves. thanks again. just in passing, which fins do you regularly use and why?

Viper 5 yellow dots.

I prefer symmetrical fins. Heaps of drive but a bit tough getting used to them because they are so stiff

I reckon the comfiest fin straps ever are:

1. Slashers
2. Kicks
3. PF3s

The slasher strap makes ankle rub pretty much impossible (Kicks are really close to being as good though).

Smartest fin/pocket combo has to be the soft toe PF3s. I prefer the Kicks overall though because the PF3s loose too much power if you trim them symmetrically.

Redleys are probably the best combo of power/comfort.

Had a pair when I was about 12-13, they were super comfy, but were pretty bad for thrust compared to other types of fins. Especially the churchills.

i'm currently using regular churchills but my spare fins are pod 3's. i agree, very comfortable foot pocket and effective drainage system. they have pretty good thrust too -but just lack that little extra that the churchill's seem to have. also they are, by comparison, much lighter in weight and tend to 'float' (for want of a better word) on the surface.

Nothing better than talking about fins. I loves me some fins. Pod 3's are brilliant but lets not forget the Vipers for thrust. Or Hydros for being super soft in the foot pocket. check out my guide to fins here. for a more complete look at the range

I recommend always Pod fins cause I ride pods and because they are the only ones with a foot pocket to blade size ratio system to protect your ancles. The most extreme fins out are called Rip Force fins, google them they are insane (and insanely expensive)
