...disgusting.

http://www.voanews.com/english/news/environment/Western-Black-Rhino-of-Africa-Declared-Extinct-133631003.html

The International Union for the Conservation of Nature is officially declaring the western black rhino of Africa extinct.

Why does this still happen? The human race is easily the worst thing that happened to Earth.
Thats just f##ked up.

The report says a sub-species of the white rhino in central Africa, the northern white rhino, is currently teetering on the brink of extinction and has been listed as "possibly extinct in the wild."

It says the Javan rhino also is making its last stand. It says the sub-species is probably extinct, following the poaching of what is thought to be the last animal in Vietnam in 2010.

Western attitude now towards whales is a bit patronizing. The reason that many are now protected species is that Western nations were responsible for hunting them to the verge of extinction in the first place. Still not cool though.

Perfect demonstration of man's impact is the Passenger pigeon.

There will be a tipping point.

Don't ask me when but.......

This really makes me angry. I don't understand how the human being race can be so cruel and insensitive.
The people killing and taking the horns of rhino's should be strapped down and have their own teeth ripped out.

I absolutely cannot stand animal cruelty. I've been a vegetarian for almost a year now, and although that doesn't really help or do anything, for me it's a good moral code to live by at this point in my life.

amen savage, same as the shark finning. it's beyond me on why so little of the animal is so crucial on what the people want. conservation is the biggest problem in the world yet some people (nearly everyone, politicians etc) are more worried about the economy. bigs ups todd for being a vego. don't know if I could handle that, I don't eat alot of red meat as my mums a nutter and real spiritual lol but I still smash a big Mac every now and then haha

Vegetarianism is a lifestyle choice some people choose to lead, but I don't see how it achieves anything? Like for example, I bet you eat fish? If you're really fussy you might only eat fresh fish you catch. You do that because you think it's more humane than how cows etc. are killed right?
Cows are put through cattle yards specially designed to keep them calm (designed by an amazing lady called Temple Grandin, look her story up its amazing) and are led to the slaughter house. They are then held still by a soft squeeze and given a stun to the head, killing them instantly with no pain. I know that maybe not every slaughterhouse does this, but it is commonly practiced.
On the other hand, fish caught by simple line fishing have a hook put through there cheek, are then dragged to the surface while fighting and potentially pulling the hook all around making it more painful. They are then pulled out into the oxygen where they suffocate and flap around. Some people beat them over the head to kill them.
Tell me that's more humane than the method above on killing a cow and you are a fool in my books.

But that's all my personal opinion and I respect anybody who is a vegetarian because some people do it purely for the health factor.

the best reason i heard for being a vegetarian is that they hate vegetables and want to make them extinct haha

Actually I don't eat any kind of meat. Fish included. Seafood included.

You're absolutely right, it doesn't really achieve anything, no. I did already state that in my previous post. Just something I kind of believe in.
The reason I chose this diet was both health and moral reasons. I've never felt more fit/healthy than I do now, but a big part of it was how I felt about it all I guess. I saw some really heavy animal cruelty video's leading up to my choice (have seen heaps before which didn't really affect me, but the most recent one I saw was horrible) and this too included a segment on inhumane acts to cow's/slaughterhouse killings, (though you're right, most abattoirs have a quick, painless method, and are not as cruel as the graphic stuff I saw).

Each to their own for sure. I respect meat-eaters as much as vegetarians. If I didn't I would be a massive hypocrite as I've eaten meat for 90% of my life up until this point.

Regardless, and back to the point, I think we can all agree that those dudes that are ripping the horns off innocent rhino's are douchebags

Amen to that.
It had been pointed out so often that if these poachers ran tourist industries instead of taking the ivory, they would make more money in the short and long term, but they don't?

That is messed up ^. Also in the same article:

A 22-year-old Korean man was charged last month with murdering his mother because she nagged him for spending too much time playing games. After killing her the man went to a nearby internet cafe and continued with his game, said officials. In 2005 a young man collapsed in an internet cafe in the city of Taegu after playing the game StarCraft almost continuously for 50 hours. He went into cardiac arrest and died at a local hospital.

What the f@k is wrong with some people? Seriously.
