hey smoido - were you at the beacon - saw some liddies getting a few nices ones off to the right looking out from the surf comp tents - some short but fun barrels?
I don't handle crowds real well - was surrounded by stand ups who all seemed to know each other so even though there were some nice ones to be had I got about three reject waves - yes 3 - in about an hour. It wasn't pumping when I got to sparrows - pretty small with occasional bigger set - but i like that break a lot - always fun even when small. Pic at bird rock doesn't do it justice - the boogers out there got a few better ones when I was watching from the stairs - but I wasn't going to hang around & take photos!

Gotta love the blind takeoff chops - gunna would have been good on sunday going on surf report - and it may sound corny but gunna really is a great spot just to chill & watch the world float bye - provided you don't get caught in a monster rip of course.

sunday sounds like a real nice session swoodle - if EP can be described as 'nice' - imagine 33 in a pretty tight take off zone would have made for a tense line up sat - 13th beach was pretty bad sat for same reason - some nice waves but I couldn't get in the zone & must have had my "do drop in" welcome mat out. Some days I hustle better than others - mostly i'd rather go where there are fewer people if i can swing it.

Well i gotta say i am a fan of Gunna i know alot of locals give it crap cause its the surfing capital of the east coast but she is a long beach with many options i have only started liking the beach breaks the last 12months prior to that they used to piss me off but i gotta say i have had some insane sessions at Gunna the last 12months bring on winter and autum!!!

I like gunna for its consistency as much as anything chops - though i've been caught by the close out factor a few times when the swell is big. Prob best session in vic waters was at bird rock last year though - even though have had some great beachies at gunna. I can only get away this sunday - last time I looked forecast a bit suss - gonna check it later in the week.

Anyone get out today? Small & clean at torquay - got a couple at bird rock early then headed down opp end of jan juc & got a few beachies. One decent wave really - nice bowley bird rock wave - but lots of waiting around for sets & extended flat spells.

Hit up Gunna this morning early had a good session hard session though alot of mixed currents / rips had to work hard for waves, ended up at a nice left that soon got afew more bodies onto it but some great waves that walled up nicely then moved futher down the beach to another left that had me barrelled to my eye balls was one of my top 5 waves powerfull not super clean but a great barrel spent about 3 odd hours chasing the banks futher and futher up the beach then when we were finally knackered and got out the walk back was way to loooooonggggg!!!but still worth it!!

sounds pretty damm good chops - and I gather a fair bit more juice and size at gunna than surf coast side. Swell was picking up a little bit when I was leaving but was time to head home. I gambled on getting bird rock without much of a crew on it - only two guys out - surfer and a bodysurfer - so that part of the plan went ok - but I really only got one good one at the rock.

Hit Torquay at about 230 in the Arvo. Wasn't big but super clean and fairly consistent. Really quick shore break at the north end. very straight line, and long runs. The water felt like it had dropped a few degrees over the past few weeks, must be winter lurking in the deep.

hey jetzboy - jan juc beach up torquay pt end seemed to pick up a bit more swell re the beachies on sunday -saw a surfer get a nice left barrel on the shorey in the middle part of the beach just as i was walking back to where my stuff was at bird rock end. i had never surfed at torquay pt end of jan juc before but was a reasonable left working - so will keep it in mind if crowds are nuts in front of the carparks.

How were the crowds? I called 'going, going' to a longboarder who was about to drop in on me and he had a massive hissy fit - I wasn't just taking off - had been on the wave for a whole section before I called him off. Do you guys call people off waves or do you just let it go? Thinking I should maybe just chill although sometimes I think people just genuinely don't see you coming.

The crowds don't phase me. Hold your ground and prove your worth on the wave. Be polite, and patient. There are plenty of waves to go round. We are all out there for a purpose, don't let others distract you from yours. I've done brazilian jujitsu for a number of years, so im just waiting for the day I can give a 55 year old bald long boarder a quick arm bar and pin him to his board!

haha - good advice - especially with regard to patience - not really my best area. Problem with giving a bald 55 year old an arm bar are his five mates - plus theres no hair for the 'bush comb' move. Its true that if you nail a decent wave early & also respect other people while you're out you generally do ok - but - you really do encounter the odd tool out in the water - I guess thats where the be polite and patient bit gets tested.

Gunnamatta beach on sunday - I got out sat pm at gunna but gave this a miss - some decent sets on sunday but quite a few closes outs too. Ended up having a grovel at pt leo - ok but pretty small - prob should have stuck with gunna or maybe tried somewhere new along flinders. Anyone else score ? I wasted a fair bit of time driving around for average waves.
