CUT FINS? PLEASE REPLY SOMEONE

Postby GoldCoastbooger » Sun Mar 25, 2012 11:16 pm

Seams the good ol' forum is die'ing slowly. Since Doch left infact. Sad really :\

Anyway, hopefully a frequent member on here will reply to me :)
Bought some XL Churchies today, and they're bloody massive. I thought they'd keep the same size blade, but make the foot pocket bigger? obviously not. The blade is so bloody big, they dont even resemble churchills, big..chunky things, kinda nearly straight bladed haha.
Is it worth cutting the blade down a bit? just so they arent so chunky and long? Will i lose power in my kicks?
Hoping someone still on here will reply, cheers guys

Hey mate

If they are a bother you could cut them down quite easily using a sharp knife, hack saw blade or sander/grinder. Your other option is to get a different pair of fins, not ethical but easy to do if you have kept the box and give them a good rinse out and take them back to the store (I may or may not have done this before after buying crappy inverted fins lol). You might find a different brand is more to your liking.

As far as losing power goes, well that really depends on how much you plan to cut off and where you plan to make the cut. It’s sort of like how long is a piece of string. I have cut just about every pair of fins I have ever owned for dk which is a few over years. Some I absolutely ruined because I cut off too much of the point and rounded them out (think blunt cuts) and others I got just right in that only a little power was lost.

When you cut fins you’re always going to lose power as you are decreasing surface area, it just depends on how much.

Personally I think you should do the full cut and round em off and take up DK full time lol. :D

Very true. Sucks.

As far as your fin dilemma. Cut them to your desire, just keep in mind don't get too carried away, once you've chopped off too much there's no chance of gluing them back together haha. Just chop a little off, that way you won't notice much difference in power loss. You don't need to get rid of alot to make them more subtle.

don't cut em don't cut em! I have the XL churchills and they're fantastic. One finally broke after a few years of service and I'm forced onto stealths for now :( The extra surface area will take some getting used to but it's seriously worth it.
