A tow-out comp that runs all through the night. Sounds like one freakin' fun beach party!

Here's the details for those of you that can make it to Espinho, Portugal for September 18 & 19:

ESPINHO STARS OF THE WAVES

- A bodyboarding event with the National and International stars of bodyboarding. -

Begins at 00:30 to 04:00 (surf and tow-out show at night!) and 14:00 to 18:00 (tow-out show).

Carving waves under the star bright sky and the warmth of the sunset.

The beach “Baía”, at Espinho will never be the same again after the 18th September: several athletes will strike the waves using the ocean as a stage where they will express their water skills. One might even say that stars came down from the sky onto the sea. No, they’re not starfish, they’re really stars of the waves.

This championship has never been done before in Portugal, nor in Europe. It lasts for one night and one day and is organized by Gonçalo Pina, Ricardo Faustino (both fully dedicated to the practice and promotion of Bodyboard) and SurfAtitudeClub. It’s co-organized by the City Hall and the civil parish of Espinho along with other entities.

The initiative “Stars of the Waves” aims at promoting bodyboarding at the highest level and brings to Espinho a different kind of event: athletes will compete at night on the 18th of September and dawn and afternoon of the following day.

These dates were purposely chosen, so that the event takes place during a festivity that brings many people (like 100.000) to Espinho: “As Festas em honra de Nossa Senhora de Ajuda”, the patron saint of the people from Espinho.
