Science Road Trip

All Photos // Science

In the middle of November, with swarms of bodyboarders in town for the National Titles and the final Aussie Tour event at D'Bah the boss-men at Science decided it was the perfect time to assemble their crew and hit the road. While the waves didn't exactly crank, the lads made the best of what they got - just as you do when you go road trippin'!

The riders for this trip were Alex Halsey, Tom Rigby, Charlie Ward and Ash Bryant, accompanying them was Riptide Photographer Alex Ormerod all set to document the wild action that was bound to go down. Before we get into all the surfing and shenanigans let's meet the Science team for this trip along NSW northern most coastline.

We're very pleased to introduce...

Name: Alex Halsey

Age:
17
A little something about myself:
I live in Perth and have just finished school

Best thing about Science is:
The team; good guys to surf and hang out with!

My dream trip would be:
A ‘round the world magazine trip with a bunch of good mates and riders.

If I had the option of scoring with the hottest chick I know or 4-6ft perfect barrels I’d choose:
I'd probably choose the barrels because I haven't had pumping waves in ages!
What were the other Science guys like on this trip:
Yeah, they were good.  Fun guys to hang out with and it was good surfing with them as we are all really competitive!

Name: Thomas Rigby
Age:
17
A little something about myself:
I’m from the Gold Coast, I’ve just finished school and I’m living the dream!
Best thing about Science is:
Having Mike as a mentor.
My dream trip would be:
Pumping waves on a tropical island with a good crew of guys, getting filmed and shot for a feature the whole trip!
If I had the option of scoring with the hottest chick I know or 4-6ft perfect barrels I’d choose:
That’s a big call. I’d have to say barrels haha.

What were the other Science guys like on this trip:
There all real cool guys. Kept the spirits up even though the waves were terrible and everyone got along sweet.

charlesward_portrait_science Name: Charlie Ward
Age:
19
A little something about myself:
I've been living in Kingscliff, northern NSW for the past seven weeks (A warm change from Charlie’s Tasmanian home. – Ed.).
Best thing about Science is:
That it’s owned by one of my biggest inspirations, Mike Stewart, and the boards are also the best I've ridden.
My dream trip would be:
A ‘round the world trip with my best mates from Tassie, scoring epic waves and having unlimited funds.
If I had the option of scoring with the hottest chick I know or 4-6ft perfect barrels I’d choose:
I'd flip a coin, then make the most of my situation.
What were the other Science guys like on this trip:
The rest of the fellas were ripping for how average the waves were for the trip.

ashbryant_portrait_science

Name: Ashley Bryant
Age:
22
A little something about myself:
I live in Palm Beach aka The Ghetto, My sponsors are Science, Burleigh Bodyboard Shop, IAMNONE & Gyroll Leashes. I’m also ridiculously afraid of heights.

Best thing about Science is:
Chris 'Appsy' Apps (Marketing Manager @ Science). Absolute legend, tears on the knee, always willing to help & wishes he was taller than Rigby, haha.
My dream trip would be:
Having enough money to hire a 5 star Super Yacht (includes helicopter & jet skis) and sail through all the Pacific Island chains from New Guinea across to Tahiti then all the way up to Hawaii, for all my mates and the top riders in the world to come along FOR FREE.

If I had the option of scoring with the hottest chick I know or 4-6ft perfect barrels I’d choose:
The hottest chick I know, because I'm an ugly dude and I can get 4-6ft perfect barrels when I sneak out of her bedroom the next morning! It's a win-win!

What were the other Science guys like on this trip:
Champions! Everyone got along really well and it made for a really fun trip.
