Head to South Africa for Turbo 5 Finalist Three

The Turbo 5 Sponsorship Campaign

In January 2010 to celebrate the launch of the new Turbo 5 board to our range, Turbo Surf Designs put out the call to the global bodyboarding community to show us the “hottest emerging bodyboard talent in the world to become a member of the Turbo 5 team”. The prize offered was the exclusive opportunity to become a professional bodyboarder as part of the Turbo 5 team, which means global team trips with professional photographers and all the other perks that come with being part of the Turbo professional team. Riders were asked to send video clips and additional information to stake their claim.

Finalist Three – Michael Ostler (South Africa)
Michael is another of the seemingly never-ending talent to come out of South Africa, like many before him he has ventured to Hawaii to prove his worth and this was rewarded in the 2010 Turbo Pipeline Pro, where Michael progressed all the way into the quarter finals before tragedy struck! He was cleaned up by a rogue set while paddling out for his quarter final and ripped his shoulder right out and was taken to hospital without getting a wave in his heat. Not to be deterred Michael headed straight back to SA to recover and has been training hard and is on his way to Australia to take his bodyboarding to the next level - respect.

I think what everyone over in Aus and Hawaii need to realise is that in South Africa there is virtually no support for up and coming boogers. Rat is a shredder no doubt about it and has one of the best attitudes to back up his talent. If he had half the time in front of a camera that the other finalists had, his clip would surpass all of them. Give it to someone who needs the support to make a name internationally rather than another 'semipro' aussie who can work sweeping the streets and earn more than a lawyer in South Africa.
