In January 2010 to celebrate the launch of the new Turbo 5 board to our range, Turbo Surf Designs put out the call to the global bodyboarding community to show us the “hottest emerging bodyboard talent in the world to become a member of the Turbo 5 team”. The prize offered was the exclusive opportunity to become a professional bodyboarder as part of the Turbo 5 team, which means global team trips with professional photographers and all the other perks that come with being part of the Turbo professional team. Riders were asked to send video clips and additional information to stake their claim.

The winner is...
Sam Strachan (Australia)
It's hard to believe Sam Strachan is only 16 years of age. There's been plenty of talk coming out Cronulla (one of bodyboarding’s toughest proving grounds) about Sam Strachan for what seems like years, and at the age of 15 Sam already had a Hawaiian season under his belt. More recently Sam beat a field of the best aspiring stars in the sport to win his place in the Shark Island Challenge. Sam has a level head on his shoulders and the talent to do anything in the sport.
Turbo Surf Designs is proud to announce Sam as the 5th member of the Turbo 5 Professional team. He will be working closely with Turbo Development Manager, Andrew Lester and travelling with the Turbo professional team to take his career to the next level. Congratulations Sam and welcome to the team!

turbos choice for the rider they wanted, not who all the whinging dudes on here wanted.
good on ya sam goodluck dude
The fact that Turbos comp info says "The prize offered was the exclusive opportunity to become a professional bodyboarder" become a prof rider? Sam was already sponsered by Toys so does make the comp look like they were just shopping for a new contract..
Whatever the decision you will always have upset peps.
will take turbo far for sure!
ahh Dave and everyone else who disagreed with me, I think you missed the reading exercise on Sesame Street... This is on the first page "It was an extremely difficult task to separate the Top 5 entries received. In the end other factors such as competition results and feedback from local peers was sought to separate the best of the best. It was impossible and unfair to judge on the clip alone, and each entry had a story." Top 5 entries. Not top 6. So stick that in your pipe and smoke it Biatch!
Sam rips for sure, but I thought the point of the comp was to unearth an underground or fresh rider, not an opportunity for a spono'd rider to hunt for a better contract.
Sorry fot Turbo, but soon he'll get a sponsor who diserves his quality!!!
disowned especially the Brazilians who broke into the waves, and they put down in very heavy waves over 8 feet, and were counted as one person only!
riptide, learn to count!
My vote goes to the Brazilian Itacoatiara!
where did this Sam?
My vote goes to one of the Brazilians, riptide, learn to count!
the Brazilians and others were deserving much more the sponsorship of which this sam who was already well. therefore that the bodyboard does not go for front, and great talents are set aside! a feather!
"TURBO GUYS, YOU DONT NEED A GOOD RIDER TO REPRESENT YOU ONLY !
YOU NEED SOMEONE THAT CAN SELL YOUR BOARDS, AFTER ALL THIS IS A CAPITALIST WORLD.
GIU S GOT IT ALL. AWESOME RIDER, PROFESSIONAL MODEL (HIS FACE HAS BEEN EVEN IN COCA-COLA DRINKING WATER BOTTLES), PLUS OTHER PUBLICITY CAMPAIGNS.
THE GUY IS A GREAT CAPOEIRA FIGHTER (BRAZILIAN-AFRICAN MARTIAL ART), ALSO A GREAT DJ AND RECENTLY, HES HEADING THE ORGANIZATION OF A BB EVENT IN FERNANDO DE NORONHA, A TROPICAL PARADISE ISLAND IN BRAZIL.
HE IS A MULTIMEDIA MAN AND AN INSANE RIDER . THATS WHAT YOU NEED IF YOU WANT TO SELL THOUSANDS OF TURBO BOARDS IN BRAZIL.
THATS IT !Arthu steel coments
So stoked Sam won, he really is a kid to look out for in the future.
