The first two days of competition at the Arica Chilean Challenge has seen plenty of action and drama.
Mitch Rawlins has reportedly had to pull out of the comp as he's ruptured his kidney. Riptide wishes him a speedy recovering and we'll be updating you guys with what exactly went down shortly. Mitch's withdrawal wasn't the only one for day. Hawaii's David Phillips has pulled out of the comp due to appendicitis, Diego Cabrera injured himself when he hit the reef and has had to pull out and Andre Botha has returned home due to a illness in the family. All the best to the above gentlemen.
In results, the majority of the first day winners were Chileans as the local boys showed everyone how the dominate the El Gringo peak. New Zealand's Ben MacKinnon busted a rather large invert to make it through his heat on the first day too. Day two saw the first of the Aussies hit the green ocean with the Gold Coast's Tom Rigby winning his heat and Brad Hughes coming second in his, which allowed him to progress through to the next round. Most of the Hawaiians lost out on the second day leaving just the Hubbard brothers to try and bring the winner's trophy back to the Islands.
In this digital age why waste this space with words when we've got plenty of videos and shots for you. For more Arica action check out the Riptide Exclusive Gallery and watch the following flicks from the home of the Arica Chilean Challenge.
