The crowd was treated to a schooling in smooth barrel riding by the UK's Jack Johns as well as death defying boosting by Venezuelan young gun Sergio Alonso who seemed to have no regard for his own safety flying at least 8 foot high over knee depth reef. All this after a fellow competitor in his heat was taken away in an ambulance with a dislocated shoulder!

Joey Orme hit the water early and took off where he left off with huge backflips and inverts over the low tide shelf. With a last minute flurry he relegated local charger and world tour competitor Yeray Martinez to second place. This heat was probably one of the finest performances of Joeys career.
Lachlan Cramsie wasted no time getting to work in his round 2 heat riding through some big slabs and rolling out on his way to second place.
This set both of the Australians up in the same quarter final heat for a showdown with IBA World Title contender Pierre Louis Costes and Chilean newcomer Maikol Pascal. The experience of the Frenchman and the enthusiasm of the young Chilean were enough to overcome the two Australians and Orme and Cramsie came 3rd and 4th respectively. The campaign is not over for these two as they now join the "do or die" repecharge division to battle if out for 2 spots back into the main division final.
The newcomers to this contest have been a revalation this year with "younger" bodyboarding nations such as Chile, Morocco and Venezuela showing they can more than match the more experienced nations. Chile for example has bought along at least 15 supporters all in full team uniform and all watching every heat with intent and cheering on their competitors. Their young, enthusiastic and super talented team will be a force to be reckoned with in the future.
Competition tomorrow will be moved to "the cloud 9 of the Atlantic" La Guancha. We will continue the DK, Women's and Junior Men's competition. Jump online from 6pm Australian time to check out Aaron Glossop, George Humphreys and Nicole Fleming.
