Tuesday Dec 6th
'Twas an early start full of eager faces this morning, whether getting their competitive efforts under way at the NMD/Pride/Stealth Trials, or fronting up to Fronton to battle it out with the crowds for a bowl or two in shifty 3-5 foot peaks.
Recently crowned 2011 Riptide Peer Poll winner Mitch Rawlins was in fine form at both venues, rattling off an array of flawless moves in the early freesurf, before taking to the skies in the contest, advancing through to the quarter finals with a bang. Conditions are looking pretty damn fine in the islands for the next few days and with the level of surfing your roving reporter’s been witnessing, I’d say you don’t want to be missing any of the live webcasts… It’s going to be bangin’!
Contest should be kicking off tomorrow at 8am with the quarters, semis and finals of the trials, followed by round one of the leaderboard, with live coverage from the semis onwards. Hasta manana yo!

Dallas super speed blur air forward bright and early…
The locals here rip, make no mistake!
The judges point of view at La Guancha (funnily enough while calling a double interference!)
You know there’s a breeze when the windsurfers come out…
Pumped crowd for the first day. This island loves bodyboarding!

Results from the Trials:
"Andrew Lester and Hugo Pinheiro kept their hopes of qualifying alive by advancing into the quarterfinals. Tom Rigby and Adam Morley also advanced into the quarterfinals. Igor Sanchez and Jones Russell lost their third round heats and subsequently have not qualified for the 2012 GSS tour. With Russell and Sanchez out of the Trials, only Pinheiro and Lester can push Rigby and Morley out of the top eight spots on the GQS. Local rider Julian Gonzalez had wave of the day, a long barrel coming out long after the spit, scoring a 9.25."
