The first comp of the year for the Women’s Bodyboarding Association.
On Saturday the 21st August, Women’s Bodyboarding Association (WBA) held its first comp of the year at the beautiful Whale Beach.
Grannies was the dress-ups theme of choice, and so there were some crazy colours, knits and wigs on display! It was a shaping up to be a great day for a comp when we arrived bright and early; offshore, three-foot fun ones and not a cloud in the sky.
Sadly, we didn’t have our usual numbers; many people tied up with work commitments, but a big thanks to all those from down south who got up in the wee hours to drive up! When we got in the water, we quickly realised the surfers didn’t understand competition area etiquette. However, blatant drop-ins soon became the theme of the day… Problem solved 😉
As time progressed the winds became violently onshore, but that did pick the wave size up! Some standout surfing included Eveline with her sharp DK skills, Kerry’s awesome modified roll, fun times testing out the Alaia wooden belly board from Surfing Green, and Noriko’s stoked smile when she won the Peppermint Flavours Milkshakes model in the raffle!
Thanks to Cyrus Avesta for coming along and shooting photos and putting on a healthy yummy spread afterwards for the hungry girls.
Thanks also to the event sponsors; BSC, Milkshakes Designs, Hive Swimwear, Surfing Green, Treehugger Wax and Riptide magazine, and to all the ladies for a great day – see you all in the green room soon yew!
