This month will see the 25th Anniversary of the Port Macquarie Teams Challenge. Here’s the details, get involved! This April 14th to Tuesday 17th will see the 25th Anniversary of the Port Macquarie Teams Challenge, the ultimate interclub bodyboarding challenge in Australia and New Zealand. Read all the details here and learn how your team could win $10K!
The IBA has removed the entry fee for the contest and offered a $10,000 cash prize for the winning team. Each team competes for the right to claim to be the best bodyboarding club in Australia and New Zealand. This standalone four-day event will see a maximum of 22 teams bring in 200 competitors from Australia and New Zealand.
Here is the general format of the event: the makeup of each team is 10 competitors, 8 Prone, 2 DK, maximum 22 teams. Each team is required to have 10 different riders. Under special circumstances, a prone rider may compete as DK. Each rider surfs twice over 4 days. Changes to the team can be made at any time but must be approved by Contest Director. Each heat will have 4 riders with the point score same as IBA round robin 1st 6, 2nd 4, 3rd 2, 4th 1, no show 0.
The Team’s challenge has purposely been scheduled in the same week the IBA World Tour/Australian tour/Shark Island Trials events in Port Macquarie to provide further incentive for riders to attend. Further details about the broader Port Macquarie Festival of Bodyboarding can be found below. In addition the 1st Round of the NSW State Titles at Soldiers Beach NSW are being held on April 10,11,12. What a great excuse for a road trip to link together the 3 events during the Easter holidays.
The Team’s Challenge is also a pivotal event for grass roots Bodyboarding in Australia. The IBA are bringing a number of mainstream corporate companies to the Port Macquarie event with a view to these companies providing funding for the local Bodyboard clubs year round as part of a broader partnership with Australian Bodyboarding. Your club needs to enter a team in the 2012 Teams Challenge to be eligible for this funding. In additional your team participation will be boosting the future funding for grassroots Bodyboarding.
Please reply with the confirmation of your local club participation in the event to secure a place as the maximum number of teams will be 22. There may be an option for a club to enter 2 teams if there are places available after all clubs have at least one team entered. As such if you will not be sending a team to the event please let us know ASAP.
