That’s back-to-back event wins for the Oo ee Ranga – he now has two thirds and two firsts for the 2012 GSS IBA World Tour and an absolute stranglehold on the 2012 World Title ran.

How did Winny take out the event? By launching the biggest air reverses throughout the final day of competition. Yeah Winny!

DAVE WINCHESTER WINS THE ITACOATIARA PRO
Itacoatiara, Brazil (Thursday, 14th June 2012)
Dave Winchester (AUS) has won the 2012 IBA Itaoatiara Pro, sponsored by Pride, Useque.com and NET in rampy 4 foot (1.5 metre) waves. Topping six-times World Champion, Guilherme Tamega (BRA) in the final again, after his recent victory over the Brazilian in the Arica Chilean Challenge final only two weeks ago. Today Winchester launched a lofty reverse air in the opening minutes of the final, scoring an impressive 9.5, backing it up with a backflip to roll combination to take out the event.

Itacoatiara Pro Final Wave Count

On his way to the final, Winchester defeated fellow country-man and good friend Ben Player in semifinal 1, the most action packed and highest scoring heat of the event. Winchester posted a huge 18.7 out a possible 20 against Player in the heat many were calling the “grudge-match” of the year. With third place finishes at the Box Pro and Pipeline Challenge respectively and two wins back-to-back, Winchester has rocketed into a comfortable lead on the 2012 IBA GSS rankings.

Mitch Rawlins seemed like the man to beat throughout the event until he met the Brazilian giant killer, Guilhereme Tamega in semifinal 2. In the first few minutes of the heat, both Tamega and Rawlins were awarded a double interference, removing their second scoring ride from their heat total. Both competitors were only scored on their single best ride, Tamega coming out on top with a high score of 8.73 out of a possible 10.

Rawlins and Player both finished in equal third today, moving them up to second and third on the world tour rankings respectively.

Honestly, this is the only way Winny travels these days. His feet never, ever touch the crowd. Geez, it’s tough on his daughters when they’re carrying him around at home.

Another win, another board gone. Mez sighs and shuffles back to the shaping bay to work on another Magic Carpet for Mr Winchester.
