Organisers of the 2015 Cronulla Shark Island Challenge have put the APB Speciality Event on standby for Thursday in anticipation of a new swell.

Officials were hoping to get the event underway today, however, unfavourable conditions this morning forced contest director Alex Leon to put the event on hold.

Leon said possible swells on Thursday or Sunday are looking promising for the event to run with a new heat draw to be distributed in the coming days.

“Thursday is showing a spike in the swell from the East-Southeast,” Leon said.

“We are carefully monitoring the low-pressure system that is set to build off the East Coast of Sydney overnight.

“The problem is that it may bring heavy rain and bad weather with it.

“Saturday is also an option, as we are expecting the Low to push through a South Swell on Friday and turn Southeast on Saturday but the winds are dicey at this stage in the afternoon.”
