Reigning FSB Pacific Ocean champion and aerial extraordinaire, Jase Finlay, has left team NMD and inked a new deal with the revamped JG Boards brand.

JG Boards is the brainchild of shaping guru Jarrod Gibson, regarded as one of bodyboarding’s most innovative shapers of the past decade.

Speaking from his company’s headquarters in Newcastle, Australia, Gibson said the signing of Finlay is “a major step forward” for the innovative board brand and shows the company’s intent on driving bodyboarding to new levels.

“Jase is one of the most naturally talented wave riders on the planet and we’re amped to have committed to a new program that combines his phenomenal ability to ride any surf craft and channel those skills into product design,” Gibson said.

2015 has seen Jase stamp his authority in the free surfing ranks by taking victory in the Free Surf World Tour Australia Pacific region.

His ability to transfer his free surfing into the competitive arena has made him a fan favourite after winning the 2011 Fronton Pro.

Finlay’s signing comes after almost four years with NMD Board Co in which he had numerous signature board models.

“I’ve had a great relationship with NMD Bodyboards and forever will, but from this point on, it will no longer be a professional one,” Finlay wrote on his athlete facebook page.

Finlay will work closely with Gibson on an entirely new range of bodyboards and is expected to have a new signature board model out.

“It’s exciting to have someone of Jase’s caliber working closely on our new ranges, his attention to detail is a perfect fit for the company and to continue pushing my shaping and vision for the ultimate board,” Gibson said.

“We’ve designed a template that focuses on speed and control in the most critical waves around the World and it’s exceeded our expectations in the process.”
