There has been more shakeups on the World Tour after the APB confirmed both the Antofagasta Bodyboard Festival and the Encanto Pro Cultura are cancelled for 2016.
Initially the Antofagasta Bodyboard Festival in Chile was pitched as a 4 star event with $50,000 prizemoney for the Mens World Tour (MWT) while the Encanto Pro Cultura in Puerto Rico was proposed as a 3 star event with $25,000 prizemoney.
APB CEO Alex Leon said both events were cancelled due to a financial crisis and lack of funding from the governments.
“Due to lack of funding and a financial crisis, both the Antofagasta Bodyboard Festival and the Encanto Pro Culutra are unable to go ahead as planned this year,” Mr Leon said.
“However we are continuing discussions with the organisers of both events and look forward to bringing them back bigger than ever in 2017.”
Other changes on the World Tour include the Itacoatiara Pro, Brazil – which is scheduled to take place next month – downgrading their prizemoney from $40,000 to $25,000. However, the event will retain its 4 star status.
There are now nine events on the Mens APB Tour calendar.
In good news, the APB has announced there Tahiti Challenge will take place at Teahupo’o in 2017 and beyond.
Speaking from the Parliament House of French Polynesia, Tahiti President Eduord Fritch and Sports and Education minister Nicole Sanquer confirmed the return of the event, saying it had a large impact on communities, tourism and media to the region.
