When the APB Tahiti Challenge took place earlier this year, this is the kind of waves we were all hoping for.

Big, heavy and dangerous. All the ingredients to an amazing Teahupo’o session.

Unfortunately, things never go as planned, and we were left with smaller – but still highly entertaining – 4-8ft waves.

Ideally, the winter months are when Chopes really comes to life, and the first swell of the peak season came bolting in recently, with a handful of Tahiti’s talented bodyboarding fraternity on hand to sample her goods.

Watch as some of the French Polynesia’s best foam riders, including Tahurai Henry, Santiago Sanchez, Angelo Faraire, Cedrik Estall and honorary local Simon Thornton, slide into some ridiculous deep Chopes caves.
